Allion Legal Principal Stephen Byrne and Solicitor Isabelle Whelan have been appointed to the NSW Government's Social Impact Investment initiative’s Expert Advice Exchange (EAX) pro bono scheme.
The EAX is a new initiative established by the NSW Treasury, Office of Social Impact Investment to connect professional service firms with eligible non-profit and social enterprises. The NSW Government’s Social Impact Investment Policy looks to make best use of the expertise, resources and scope for innovation that the non-government and private sectors can bring to meet community needs and tackle social problems.
“We are excited to be able to support non-government organisations (NGOs) and social enterprises who often rely on volunteers and which will benefit from the level of legal knowledge and experience we have at Allion,” said Mr Stephen Byrne, Principal.
Firms and advisers in the scheme are expected to provide eligible organisations with a service in relation to legal and financial issues, governance, business strategy and systems, for example helping to set up governance arrangements or preparing for and participating in new services.
“In our day to day work we advise organisations on contracts, funding, project management, regulatory and governance matters and workplace and safety law, and we believe that expertise can be of benefit to NGOs and social enterprises, as the EAX envisages” said Mr Byrne.
“We are delighted to be part of this significant initiative which has been set up to encourage and assist participants involved in providing services to people in real need,” said Mr Byrne.
